Driving hundreds of feet up the side of a mountain in southern Alberta, Canada on a Sunday drive with my wife and friend when suddenly and dramatically the Chev Avalanche I was driving had a flat. Getting out to take a look and discover a two to three inch split in the tire dead in the middle of the centre treads. Lucky isn't the word, we did a quick tire change and got home.

Goodyear, Well if you say so. Wranglers are not the best tires Chev and GSL could put on our vehicles for our family safety.

Lot's of people like us should be very afraid for themselves and their loved ones.

My wife and boy said they where glad they were not driving when it happened.

Yes and it went in for service today at GSL, but sits outside my house now in the same state as it was Sunday with its " Full Sized Spare" and yet mismatched tires.

It seems it is perfectly normal and not covered for tires under 11,000 kms to separate and split down the very middle. Normal with no sharp rocks or sharp things to poke it let alone split the slit I have in my tire, in sight anywhere on a recently graded mountain road.

If found in the following situation, at least please go to a tire dealer for you new tires. Do not pay this scammed and planned bonanza (your money) to the dealership or to chev.

Think about it they planned for you to spend hundreds of dollars on a new tire when 50 or 60 would do to replace your spare.

Question;  Why does GSL and Chev sell you a spare which differs from your other four tires?

Answer;   Because you will be forced to pay their price to match your other tires when one fails. You will be unable to just buy a reasonably priced spare, and switch the tire on your spare wheel onto your running wheel.

You must demand in the sales negotiation beforehand that all five tires(and rims) are the same!

Why would anyone want to pay for a "full size spare" and have it mismatched?

Chev and GSL make alot of money on this scam!!!

If Wolf's truck broke (or a had failed tire like mine) it would have been fixed on Monday and there would not have been a charge.

Goodyear is now feeling the heat as their Wrangler LT tires are under scrutiny for tread separations problems similar to Firestone.
The tires in question are light truck (LT) Wrangler AT, HT, and All Season Workhorse as well Kelly-Springfield Power King and Trailbuster tires size LT235/85R16 and LT245/75R16. All of the tires are rated load range 'E.' These tires are used on commercial vehicles like school vans and large SUVs, including the Chevy Suburban.
Goodyear became aware of tread separation problems in 1995 in part due to the number of claims and lawsuits with the LT Wranglers. The company began investigating the cause and by 1996 started adding an additional ply called a nylon overlay or nylon cap to reinforce the tread belts to some of the Wrangler LT tires.
There have been at least 8 known fatalities attributed to Wrangler LT tire tread separations. NHTSA indicated that it was aware of 59 complaints.
Many documents related to the Wrangler LT tread separation problem remain under seal in litigation. Trial Lawyers for Public Justice plans to request that the judge presiding over a case pending in New Jersey unseal records and allow public scrutiny.

Back in the city on this past Monday we called GSL and asked to get our tire fixed, they could not serve us untill Today Thursday July 12, 2004. Well the tire was split right down the middle and yes you guessed it is not covered. Now how many people have had a new tire split down the middle. And what kind of dummy would suggest I buy one new tire at my cost. Two new tires should be put on a vehicle in this situation to keep everything balanced.

I guess it is buyer beware.

I guess too, there will be no more of those fake smiles for me from that great little family at GSL. "

I know a guy that got stopped last week and had to call his brother to come drive his F-250 home for him. I also work for a plumbing contractor and we have around 120 trucks, half of which are F-250's and all those guys have to get upgraded classes of licences as well.

Almost seems like a Green Party conspiracy to kill SUV's in a round about manner, doesn't it? '"

GSL says seals are out of alignment.

Don't buy from them, when you try to leverage service from them and take steps like this they accuse you of Blackmail. They do not serve us they serve themselves only. The owner of GSL is a rich consumming .................................!

He drives what he likes and when it breaks we all pay to fix it for him, through the purchase price of the vehicles we buy.

They did not sell me leaks, dust problems, transmission problems. water problems and shitty tires. but now that I bought from them they could not care for a second.

I did and I will tell you I am not satisfied at all with the whole crew they have tried to rip us off. Get this we had some nice person hit our vehicle and all the damage was a passenger side mirror lens was broken. So I asked my wife to take it over and get it fixed at GSL, she did. Well they wanted over $600 dollars. "well I lose it" I went down there got a lens for $35 dollars and installed it myself in less than a minute standing in their parking lot in the freezing cold.
