TAMFS: "TAMFS - Michigan protest against Chevrolet
Marchers endure bitter cold to challenge Chevy
(November 24, 2002) From age six to well over sixty, they faced the darkness, cold, and bitter wind of late November to make visible their concern over the world's largest automaker sponsoring one America's best known Christian fundamentalist speakers. As they gathered in a prayer vigil, across the road was the entrance to the event for which Chevrolet had provided advertising dollars. The marquee of The Palace in Auburn Hills, Michigan announced the presence of popular author and radio personality, Rev. Max Lucado. Traffic slowed and backed up as thousands of cars entered the 'Come Together and Worship' concert. They encountered a long line of colorful protest signs that displayed the message of the marchers. Among the signs carried by children, teenagers, pastors, openly gay and lesbian church leaders, and their friends were, 'Chevy Sponsors Spiritual Violence,' 'Hate Is Not A Family Value,' 'Prophets: Not Profits,' and 'Would Jesus Sell Chevys?' Many of the concert attendees rolled down their windows to ask questions. Some thanked the marchers for raising awareness. A few shouted insults at those in the prayer vigil."
