Chevrolet overture: "Last summer, a partnership was developed between Chevrolet and a group of fundamentalist Christian entertainment promoters. Chevy saw the Christian fundamentalist population as a target audience for selling cars. The promoters saw the influx of Chevy money and media savvy as a way to increase exposure for the worship tour.
While in the past, corporations have provided money to religious groups for projects such as famine relief or affordable home building, this venture is new and unique. Chevy is paying the bill for what has been promoted as a 'worship experience.' And Chevy is not even doing this as a behind the scenes corporate donation. This is pure advertising sponsorship, with the Chevy name and logo front and center, not unlike corporate sponsorship of NASCAR racers and golf tournaments. Steve Betz, spokesperson for Chevrolet, has said this is all about selling cars."
